Effect of Hydration and Dehydration on our Body

Essential for life itself, Water plays many important roles inside the body.Water is a single largest component of the body about 60% weight of the body on average.

Effect of Water in different parts of the body

     1)Cells

The Water in our body is crucial for transporting carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals and other important nutrients to the cell. Our cells then produce energy to keep moving.

    2)Temperature
Sweat is our body’s way of cooling itself and water makes it possible. Our body’s water help dissipate heat, regulating your overall body temperature .If our body is too hot, water is released by perspiring .If the water lost through sweat is not replaced ,your body can become dangerously overheated.

    3)Muscle and joints

In addition to the bones ,muscle and joints help us to  sit, move and go about our daily life.Water help cushions joints and keep muscles working properly. In fact, 70-75% of our muscle is made up of water.

    4)Brain

Adequate water is required for proper functioning of the brain.Mild Dehydration leads to the Loss of 1%-2% of body  weight due to fluid deficiency can  impair your concentration .And a loss of more than 2% body weight due to fluid deficiency can affect your brain function ability and impair short-term memory.

    5)Heart

Fluid is important for healthy heart function and plays an important role in normalizing blood pressure .Dehydration decreases cardiac output and increases heart rate and reduced blood pressure.

    6)Kidney

Water is essential for kidney ,helping them to remove waste toxins and excess nutrients.A well hydrated healthy person kidney filters around 180 liters of water each day .

    7)Skin

Skin is an organ ,and just like any other part of the body ,your skin is made up of cells. And skin cells ,like any other cell in the body ,are made up of water .If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling.

    #DEHYDRATION:

Dehydration is defined as fluid losses greater than two percent of body weight. As the body becomes dehydrated, blood volume and sweat production decrease and the body’s core temperature increase.Because the body needs to prevent overheating, the body must work harder to send blood to the skin to dissipate the built up heat and produce sweat. The result is less fluid in the bloodstream to deliver oxygen-rich blood to working muscles, lungs and other organs.

Dehydration can negatively impact aerobic exercise performance, especially in hot weather, and may potentially degrade mental/cognitive performance.Dehydration and sodium deficits are associated with skeletal muscle cramps.
